#10 A Doll’s House
Since the late 1880’s almost every little girl, which comes from a family that can afford one, has had a dolls house at some point in their life. Although now not as popular as what they were twenty years ago, because of technology, the doll’s house is still a timeless classic that, with imagination, can bring endless hours of fun.
#9 Teddy Bear
Often given to babies when they are new born and kept throughout childhood, sometimes later, the classic teddy bear is one that will never go out of fashion. A child can find a friend for life in their furry companion, and without the use or need for technology their imaginations can run wild.
#8 Blocks
Whether they are the more timeless wooden block or the modern plastic block, for over a century children have played with blocks. Stacking them up and hitting them back down seems like such a simple task to an adult but for a young child, it can provide endless amounts of fun.
#7 Puzzles
Still as popular today as they were decades ago, puzzles are both educational for children and mind bending for adults. Ranging from various ages and difficulty, almost every single child had played with some form of puzzle at some point in their life.
#6 Board Games
Board games have been about for decades, and are completely timeless. One of the only types of games that get the whole family can get involved; they range from just for fun games like monopoly and Clue to educational games like scrabble. Most children have at least one board game tucked away somewhere just waiting to be pulled out, usually around festive periods.
#5 Cabbage Patch Kids
There was no other toy in history that was literally fought over more than the magnificent cabbage patch kids. Every child whose parents were lucky enough to buy one of the dolls would have had endless amounts of fun with them. Decades have passed since they were first put on the shelves and children everywhere still love them, almost as much as their parents do.
#4 Nintendo Gameboy
During the 1980’s and 90’s kids everywhere had a Nintendo Game boy that they would spend hours playing with. Being one of the first hand held electronic games, when they first arrived on the shelves they were seen as the start of a technical revolution, and rightly so. Today, most twenty to thirty year olds remember their Game boy and wonder why they didn’t keep their old handhelds to compare them to today’s version.
#3 Pogo Balls
Just a few decades ago, everyone who was anyone had a pogo ball. Although widely unheard of now, back in the 1980’s they were the must have outdoor toy for everyone. The many cuts and bruises that were suffered during the use of the pogo balls were definitely worth the pain because of the fun that could be had.
#2 Slinkys
The 1940’s saw the introduction of the classic slinky. Still around today, although not as popular, back then everyone had a slinky that they would watch go down the stairs over and over again, that is until they got all tangled up. Not being able to provide hours of fun because of how impossible it is to untangle a slinky, they were still the must have toy during the 40’s.
#1 The Rubik’s Cube
First introduced in the 1970’s and still popular today, every child would spend ages trying to figure out how to solve the Rubik’s cube. Nowadays they’re used in competitions around the world to see who can solve them the fastest. Most people have one lurking in the back of their cupboard somewhere waiting to be solved.
