#10 Space Chimp
This picture from 1961 shows the chimpanzee that was successfully rocketed into space and back again. The chimp is seen posing for the photo, which is what makes this all the more adorable and amazing at the same time, a must see for any animal lover.
#9 Do a Barrel Roll
In the year of 1901 Annie Edison Taylor was the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive. What an achievement it would be to lock yourself in a barrel commit yourself to almost certain death and actually survive, here she is pictured with the actual barrel she used.
#8 Exotic Dancer
Nothing like the exotic dancers that are seen today, this photo from the 1890’s shows what exotic dancers used to look like. Much more covered up than modern dancers, and with a much fuller figure than those of today, this photo shows just how much times have changed.
#7 Keep to the Left, or Right
In 1967 Sweden confused drivers across the country when they were told to drive on the right side of the road instead of the left. This photo clearly shows the chaos that this should-be simple change caused. Many people were late for work on this day.
#6 Bulletproof
The testing of a bulletproof vest in 1923, what better way to see if a lifesaving vest works than to test it out on a living person? The job of the person wearing the vest was probably not wanted by many, unless they were desperate for money or desperate for the vest to fail.
#5 The Titanic Survivors
This photo shows some of the survivors of the Titanic ship after it hit an iceberg and sank. The ‘unsinkable’ ship took the lives of many, but the people of this boat are some of the very few lucky ones who managed to escape.
#4 An Apple a Day
What a simple life is that of a child, not a care in world and not a worry in sight, unless of course your friend has a nicer apple than you. This picture from 1948, taken in Seattle, shows four children eating and discussing their apples.
#3 Milk Delivery
Interesting to see how far the world has come in deliveries. Rarely do you see anyone in a horse drawn carriage now, but in the early 1900’s it was the only way (other than walking) to get around the streets and make the all-important milk delivery.
#2 Sweets For All
1953 was the year that held the day to the end of the sweet rationing. What a glorious day it was for all those who had a sweet tooth. This image shows a crowd of people (mostly children) rushing into a local sweet shop in Britain to buy some sweets to curb their cravings.
#1 Money to Burn
Hyperinflation in Germany in 1923 got so bad that money was worth so little that piles could be burnt as fuel and it would hardly make a difference to your pocket, and was cheaper than using them to buy firewood. Although now only the rich can afford to burn money back then it was commonplace.
