#10 Salvador da Bahia
Once the capital city of Brazil from 1549 up until 1763 when it was succeeded by Rio de Jeneiro, Salvador da Bahia is considered to be the happiest place in the country. The city is best known for its food, music and general party atmosphere because of the numerous parties that now take place there.

The capital city of Egypt, Cairo, has been home to many revolutions and protests and in 1952 the city was left devastated due to the ‘Cairo Fire’ which destroyed hundreds of buildings. From the year that Pakistan became independent in 1947 up until 1959, the city of Karachi was the capital. During the 1960’s Karachi’s economy was seen as great across the world, with many countries striving to achieve the same. However, in the late 1960’s lack of development in the city started a period of decline which was set to last.

After world war two and the fall of Mussolini, Rome grew tremendously and during the early 1960’s it was starting to become known as the fashionable city that it’s loved for today. The modernization of the city meant that the population would grow and to meet the needs of the growing population reconstruction and development started.

Before the destruction of the city Diriyah was the capital of Saudi Arabia from 1744 to 1818. Many of the ruins that were left behind after the Egyptian siege in 1818 are still present in Diriyah today and have become a tourist attraction.

History has engraved itself in the city of Moscow, which was once a medieval city, though that does not mean that it isn’t now fully modernized. Being the home to one of the largest communities of billionaires, Moscow, the capital city of Russia, which has been named as one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Many historical buildings have been beautifully preserved in Madrid and are some of the main tourist attractions to the city today. The history that is evident in this city is one that should be seen by all, and almost guarantees the yearn to learn more.

Named after its first president, George Washington, Washington is the capital city of the US. Washington was not always the most modernized of cities and during the 1870’s, it still had a problem with poor sanitation. The later developments of government buildings and modernization projects left the city bankrupt.
